The Berea Arts Council’s annual Quilt & Fiber Extravaganza will take place at Foley Middle School this summer. The event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 28 and 29.
The Quilt & Fiber Extravaganza has taken place at Berea Community School for the past several years, but the school was not available for the event this year because of construction taking place this summer. Berea Arts Council director Gwen Childs said, “We were worried we would not be able to find another place to hold the event, but the administration at Foley Middle School has graciously agreed to allow us the use of the school. We’re making plans and looking forward to another great event.”
The event showcases a wide variety of quilts, including historical, family, and art quilts. The quilt theme for 2017 is the Wedding Ring pattern and its variations. Also featured are fiber creations such as weaving, knitting, crochet, felting and all other fiber art. Community members are invited to display quilts and fiber pieces that they have made or are part of their family collection.
We will also have Quilt talks! Dr. Judy Rector will discuss “Wedding Quilts and Traditions Old and New”. She will be speaking at 2pm on Friday and 2pm on Saturday. Cheryl Witt will discuss information on fabric selection for quilts. She will be speaking at 11am on Friday and 11am on Saturday.
