"The Shifflet Cabin was built around 1813 by Thomas Shifflet in Drowning Creek, according to a memorial on the side of the cabin. The structure was used as both a home and a country school house. Around 1980, Thomas Shifflet’s descendant, Raymond Layne, moved the cabin to Adams Street. It was thereafter donated to the City of Berea in 2003, and later moved to its current location on the Artisan Village green." - Richmond Register
