Community members have partnered with Berea College students, faculty, and staff to bring awareness and show support for undocumented students and community members in Berea.
The rally will be from 2-4pm at the Fee Statue Park (on the corner of Boone St and Chestnut St), and will consist of spoken word and poetry. Local officials and businesses will also speak about the services they can provide to undocumented immigrants in the community. We also will have Bereans present to show their support during this crucial time. The rally is open to the entire community and is intended to rally, educate, and mobilize Bereans about the issues their immigrant neighbors are facing and learn how to help.
As families are separated and threatened with deportation every day, Berea College members are taking efforts to have the school become a sanctuary campus that will protect DACA students by not complying completely with Immigration forces that could deport them and prevent them from completing their education. We hope to extend these efforts to the larger community and bring together those willing to give their support in expanding these efforts.
There will be an informational meeting on December 17th from 3-5 pm at the Public Library in the community room for those who would like to debrief about the rally, ask questions, and learn more about how to help.
